OpenAlex is a freely accessible, interdisciplinary platform for over 480 million academic works, including journal articles, preprints, books, datasets and dissertations from around the world. It is run by the non-profit organisation OurResearch and offers an alternative to commercial databases. As OpenAlex does not curate the documents it contains, it is up to users to assess the scientific rigour of the content. As part of the Open Science movement, OpenAlex makes all publication and citation data available free of charge and without registration under a CC0 licence. The database is used as a data source by several other tools, including Wispar, Local Citation Network, and OAHelper.
