How to Secure Your Own Research Data in the Long Term

The most obvious way to secure your research data is to upload it to a repository. Here it is permanently stored and made accessible. There are various types of repositories: Those for the most varied forms of research information and those only for specific data types. Furthermore, repositories can differ from one another, depending on whether they have a general, cross-disciplinary or subject-specific focus and whether they are institutional, regional or national.

Even if long-term storage in a repository is recommended: If in doubt, any form of storage, such as on an institution server, is better than that on a local hard drive or a USB stick.
