Search strategy for Open Code

You can search for Open Code in various ways. The following approaches are possible:

  • Search for code as “Supplemental Material” of thematically or methodologically appropriate journal articles: When searching for publications, you can check whether you can filter for Supplemental Material. Journal providers such as the American Economic Association (AEA) also operate repositories for data and code, which can be searched directly if necessary. In the ZBW’s Journal Data Archive you will find data sets as well as code that belongs to published articles, and in some cases it is also possible that supplemental material has been stored on platforms such as Zenodo and Figshare or GitHub and GitLab.
  • In code repositories such as GitHub, in most cases, you will only find relevant search results with English terms. You can also filter by programming language. In addition to “simple” code, you can also find a lot of Open Source software there.
  • On Zenodo and Figshare you can filter your search specifically by software. However, only Figshare allows you to further narrow down the search by discipline.
