Reusing Open Code

When reusing Open Code, it is important to note what the respective licence allows or requires. In the case of Creative Commons licences, for example, this involves naming the author or the type of use (whether commercial or non-commercial). Some licences require that modifications or derivations themselves must be shared as Open Source (“copyleft”). Others imply that code may only be used in own software whose code is itself Open Source.

In addition, it must be checked which software is needed or would have to be installed for subsequent use. Purely commercial software can mean a restriction on reusability if, for example, you have no way of obtaining a corresponding licence.
