“Re-publish your paywalled work in open access today for free!” – this is the slogan of the new tool Free Your Science. Find out how the online help promotes easy Open Access in a few steps via this blog post.
Free Your Science is a new tool with which you can make already published articles accessible in Open Access with a few clicks. Or, put another way: It supports you in freeing your own publications from obstructive paywalls, thereby making them accessible to a wider public, for greater reach and a higher impact.
This is how Free Your Science works
In a first step, Free Your Science helps you to identify which of your own online publications are still hidden behind paywalls. To do this, simply enter your full name, your ORCID or alternatively directly enter the DOIs of the relevant publications in the search field.
In the list of results, you will now receive a detailed overview with details of the status of the respective publications, which may either be published in Open Access (“paywalled with free open access pathway”), are already accessible in Open Access, or cannot be made available via Open Access owing to publisher restrictions (“publications with non-free publisher policies”).
For every publication that you are able to republish in Open Access through self-archiving, Free Your Science provides you with individual instructions for the procedure. This includes information on the best option for self-archiving in agreement with the publishers of the first publication. Free Your Science receives this information in real time from the Sherpa Romeo database.
Daniel Haarhoff and Lukas Grossberger, two Open Science enthusiasts are the brains behind Free Your Science; they operate the service free of charge for users. The service is based on the interfaces and data from Semantic Scholar, ShareYourPaper and Unpaywall, further useful tools for Open Access.
