It has been publicly accessible for two years and enables the publication of research data as standalone data publications. As a new use case, REFODAT also offers the option of storing research data even when publication is not planned—for example, to meet data retention requirements set by third-party funding agencies.

FAIR Research Data Publication with the Multidisciplinary Open Repository ZENODO

9. February 2027
Online
Organised by: Service Center Research Data

The workshop provides an opportunity to learn about the functionality of the reputable, open repository Zenodo, developed under the European OpenAIRE program and operated by CERN. During a hands-on session, participants will input a provided dataset into the Zenodo Sandbox, with the chance to ask questions and discuss their experiences. While long-term accessibility is ensured by the mere use of a trustworthy repository, descriptive metadata is crucial for the findability of research data. Reusability increases with comprehensive documentation and meaningful context information for any dataset. In addition to an introduction to core RDM principles and the reasons and benefits of publishing research data, there will be interactive elements to further awareness of the importance of metadata and good documentation practices.

Common Problems when Publishing Research Data

Would you like to know what challenges and pitfalls can arise when publishing research data? In our upcoming Coffee Lecture, we’ll shed light on the most common problems encountered in data publications—based on the study by Pennekamp, J., Lohmöller, J., Schütte, D., Loos, J., & Henze, M. (2026). Hidden Secrets in the arXiv: Discovering, Analyzing, and Preventing Unintentional Information Disclosure in Source Files of Scientific Preprints (Version 1, arXiv, doi.org). We will present and discuss the problem areas identified in the study in greater detail. In addition, we will share initial practical experiences from REFODAT’s editorial work to provide insights into the challenges of publishing research data.

Archiving and publishing research data on OPARA – An introduction and demonstration

5. March 2027
Online
Organised by: Service Center Research Data

To comply with good scientific practice (GSP), research data and all associated information that enables the traceability and reproducibility of the research should be securely archived for at least 10 years. In addition, many German research funding institutions and European funding programs require mandatory information on the further use or exploitation of the data after completion of the project (subsequent use and data publication). One way to fulfill these requirements is to archive and/or publish your research data in OPARA, the repository for Saxon universities, operated by TU Dresden. In this talk, after a brief introduction to the concepts of archiving and publication, the OPARA platform will be demonstrated and you will learn how to use the repository for your research data.
