Would you like to learn new things and network around Open Science? We present some highlights of online and offline events in 2025 from the Open Economics Guide’s calendar of events.
Online events such as Coffee Lectures as well as on-site events such as conferences or unconferences offer a good opportunity to refresh your knowledge, familiarise yourself with previously unknown areas of Open Science and make new contacts. There are many opportunities for this in 2025. Below you will find a small selection of upcoming events aimed at both Open Science beginners and experienced researchers. You can find more events in the Open Economics Guide’s event calendar, which is updated on an ongoing basis.
This event is part of the ZBW Coffee Lectures on Open Science Education.
29.01. | Online
Organised by: ZBW – Leibniz Information Centre for Economics
“To unlock the research potential of new data sources by applying fitting methods, education is needed. The BERD Academy is the training outlet of the consortium for Business, Economics, and Related Data in the National Research Data Infrastructure (BERD@NFDI). In this talk, we will present how a wide range of offers in flexible formats fulfils the needs of researchers and research data providers. We want to discuss, how educational content can unlock research potential and how open education can foster Open Science.”
20.02. – 21.02. | Den Haag (Netherlands)
Organised by: FAIR-IMPACT, FAIRCORE4EOSC
“Adopters and implementers of FAIR enabling solutions, tools, methodologies and practices will do a showcase in a marketplace-like settled area (…) and you’ll meet FAIR champions, FAIR ambassadors, interoperability experts and practitioners.”
This event is part of the ZBW Coffee Lectures on Open Science Education.
25.02. | Online
Organised by: ZBW – Leibniz Information Centre for Economics
“By embracing Open Science in higher education, instructors can teach students not only theoretical knowledge but also practical skills in transparent, accessible, and reproducible research. This approach includes employing Open Science practices such as filling out a pre-registration form, making students aware that sharing materials and data is helpful, and highlighting the importance of replications. As higher education institutions increasingly adopt these practices, they prepare students for a future where open and collaborative research is the norm, bridging the gap between academic training and real-world scientific practices.”
Another session of the Coffee Lectures on Open Science Education: 24.06.2025
11.03. – 12.03. | Online
Organised by: ZBW – Leibniz Information Centre for Economics
“The event is designed to encourage in-depth interaction, with small group discussions that promote networking and knowledge sharing. Impulse talks by selected experts provide a rich foundation for the subsequent interactive discussions (…). Our next topic is: Artificial Intelligence and Open Science.”
12.03. – 14.03. | Heidelberg & Online
Organised by: Heidelberg University
“The E-Science-Tage are an interdisciplinary conference series focussing on research data management and Open Science – with a wide range of opportunities for professional exchange between science and technology.”

Projects may seek to improve any aspect of research culture and practice, including all phases of the research process. Examples may include projects related to open science, responsible research practices, team science, stakeholder engagement in research, diversity, equity and inclusion, research assessment reform, research funding allocation, or scholarly communication.”
08.10. – 09.10. | Hamburg
Organised by: Leibniz Strategy Forum on Open Science, ZBW – Leibniz Information Centre for Economics
“This year’s conference will have a special focus on the intersection between Open Science and AI. The rapid integration of artificial intelligence and corresponding tools into scientific research poses both new challenges but also opportunities for Open Science practices. This requires a reflection on how this can be aligned with transparency, accessibility, reproducibility, and reusability as core principles of Open Science.”
